Judge Blocks Stoppage of Free Birth Control in 13 States

Judge Haywood Gilliam of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California granted a request for a preliminary injunction filed by California, New York, and 11 other states. The injunction is a response to new Trump administration rules that would allow employers to opt out of providing no-cost birth control to women.

According to Gilliam, allowing employers to opt out of providing free birth control could pose “potentially dire” financial and public health consequences. Gilliam also says that new ruled would force women to pay for birth control themselves. What Gilliam fails to mention is that prior to the socialist Obamacare, women were already paying for their own birth control, and there were no dire financial consequences for doing so.

According to Planned Parenthood, birth control costs about $50 per month or $600 per year. That is far from any dire financial consequences. Judge Gilliam also feels that “the rules were also likely to increase the rate of unintended pregnancies, creating additional costs for the states.” This highlights the major difference between Democrats and Republicans. Republicans want a smaller less intrusive government that allows people to make their own decisions while being held accountable. Democrats, on the other end of the spectrum, think they know best for all, and want to control private citizens as well as private sector businesses.

In a statement taken from court documents, the DOJ says, the rules “protect a narrow class of sincere religious and moral objectors from being forced to facilitate practices that conflict with their beliefs.” Expanding on Obama era rules that include exemptions for religious organizations, the new Trump rules added “moral convictions” as a reason to opt out of furnishing free birth control to female employees. The true fight we the people are in middle of is one of socialism that decides for, and the sovereign freedom that America has always been known for.
