Dana White Steps Down as Pentagon Spokeswoman

Digital news background

On the last day of of James Mattis serving as Defense Secretary, Pentagon spokeswoman Dana White announced that Monday, December 31, would also be her last day. White has held the role for a year and a half. White said on Monday “I appreciate the opportunity afforded to me by this administration to serve alongside Secretary Mattis, our service members and all the civilians who support them. It has been my honor and privilege”.

In August, news broke that the Pentagon Inspector General was investigating White for allegedly directing staff members to “run personal errands for her and later retaliating against them”, according to The Hill. Seeing as morale is said to have been low in recent months at the Pentagon, due to a disconnect between Mattis and President Trump, it is unlikely that rumors of an investigation had anything to do with White stepping down. From all that has been said, General Mattis had true respect from those around him in the Pentagon. This could be another domino in the reshaping of the Trump administration.

White was chosen for the role after Peter Cook stepped down shortly before President Trump was inaugurated. Before serving in the Pentagon, White founded and was the CEO of 1055 Grady LLC, a Washington D.C. strategic communications firm.

Charles Summers, who served as White’s deputy will fill her role starting on Tuesday, January 1.
